Teachers Protest in Chengdu, Sichuan

  From CLB: On February 3, 2005, more than 100 teachers employed at 14 schools under the Sichuan Petroleum Administration Bureau engaged in a sit-in at the Sichuan Petroleum head office in Chengdu, carrying signs saying “peaceful protest” and “hunger strike.” During the restructuring process, the schools had been transferred to the local government, which however refused to implement relevant central government requirements, resulting in a reduction in the teachers’ wages.
